Holmes’ Officer Ricks awarded Top Cop honor

Officer Stanley Ricks, a law enforcement officer for Holmes Community College and deputy sheriff for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, was recognized as one of the state’s leading law enforcement officers. An officer on the Holmes Ridgeland Campus, he received the “Top Cop” honor from the Mississippi Center for Police and Sheriffs.

Ricks and his wife Frances are residents of Farmhaven. He has worked for Holmes for a year and eight months and has served in law enforcement for over 16 years total.

“Officer Stanley Ricks’ tireless efforts and extraordinary patience exemplifies what a dedicated officer with a desire to stop criminal activity can do,” said Holmes Police Chief Michael Stamps. “Officer Ricks was assigned to investigate a series of identity thefts from the Campus Bookstore. Acting on very little information, Ricks watched hours of video, obtained statements from witnesses and victims, sequentially logged each time a victim was harmed, identified the suspect and put the perpetrator in jail. Ricks subsequently presented the case to the Madison County Grand Jury and the suspect is now indicted.

The Top Cop program is in its 16th year of recognizing top law enforcement agents in Mississippi. The annual awards program is sponsored by the Mississippi Center for Police and Sheriffs. Awards are given to agents representing state and metro area law enforcement agencies.

Prior to his current positions, Officer Ricks served as an installation service technician, a sales representative for Lakeside Moulding & Manufacturing Company, Inc., and as a sergeant, patrol division, for the City of Madison.
