Holmes to host information meeting for Commercial Truck Driving program

Holmes Community College is holding an informational meeting for the Commercial Truck Driving program on Thursday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Attala Center in Kosciusko. The meeting is open to the public, and all of the Truck Driving program instructors will be present.

The Commercial Truck Driver Training Program is an eight-week program that prepares students to enter the commercial truck driving industry. The courses cover: Transportation Technology, Preventive Maintenance & Servicing, Cargo Documentation, Vehicle Inspections, Recognizing & Reporting Malfunctions, Basic Shifting Exercises, Backing Exercises, Accident Procedures, Rural & City Driving, Motor Carrier Atlas Review, Coupling/Uncoupling, Sliding Tandems, Pre-Trip & Post-Trip Inspections, Emergency Scenarios and Logbook Exercises. The program includes classroom, controlled driving environment and road driving. Classes are held Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.

The requirements to participate in this program include: a CDL permit, a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical drug test, a DVR and a criminal background check. Students must have a clean driving record. A copy of Mississippi Highway Patrol Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) is required; this report can be obtained from the Mississippi Highway Patrol office or at https://www.ms.gov/dps/license_renewal/MVR. Students also must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and at least 18 years old. A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
