Fiber optics training scheduled at Holmes Ridgeland Campus

RIDGELAND — A Fiber Optics 1-2-3 workforce training course will be offered at the Ridgeland Campus of Holmes Community College March 16–26 and again April 13–23.

Classes will be held Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The training is designed to prepare participants for in-demand careers in fiber optics, with instruction aligned to the needs of Amazon Web Services and its network partners. Participants will gain hands-on experience in fiber splicing, installation and troubleshooting — skills essential to supporting data centers and modern communications infrastructure.

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. The role may involve working in confined spaces or at heights, along with flexible hours that could include evenings and weekends. Technicians should be comfortable performing physically demanding tasks such as lifting equipment and working in challenging environments. A basic understanding of technical systems, operations or information technology is helpful but not required.

Training will take place in the McGowan Building on the Ridgeland Campus, located at 412 W. Ridgeland Ave.

To register, call Vanessa Shiers at the WIN Job Center at 601-619-2843 or 601-629-6886. While training is held on the Ridgeland Campus of Holmes Community College, participants must register through the WIN Job Center.

The training is offered as a non-credit workforce course, and participants do not enroll as Holmes students. For those who qualify, grant funding may cover the registration fee and may also provide an hourly stipend for time spent in class.
