RIDGELAND — Students in the Surgical Technology program on the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus earned top honors as the 2026 Scrub Bowl Champions at a recent surgical technology conference, showcasing their clinical knowledge, teamwork and hands-on skills against programs from across the region.
The Scrub Bowl competition challenges surgical technology students with fast-paced, scenario-based questions and practical decision-making skills used in real surgical environments. Holmes students competed against nine other schools, advancing through four rounds of competition, the semifinals and ultimately a head-to-head championship match. The competition tested students’ knowledge of perioperative practice, pharmacology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, and a variety of surgical specialties.
Representing Holmes were Quynton Davis, Makenzie Evans and Abigail Lampard. After an exciting and closely contested championship round, the team secured victory by a single point, earning first-place honors and claiming the 2026 championship title.
The championship marks another Scrub Bowl title for the Holmes Surgical Technology program, with the program’s last first-place finish occurring in 2022. Faculty members said the students’ success reflects their dedication, knowledge, critical thinking skills and professionalism, as well as the strength of the Surgical Technology program.
In addition to the team’s championship success, Lampard was selected as the 2026-27 Association of Surgical Technologists National Student Liaison. In this role, she will represent surgical technology students from across the nation while contributing to initiatives that advance and strengthen the profession.
This prestigious position has previously been held by four Holmes Surgical Technology students from the Ridgeland Campus, highlighting the program’s longstanding commitment to leadership and professional involvement. The opportunity helps increase awareness of the surgical technology profession while developing future leaders who advocate for patients, students and the profession at the national level.
The Surgical Technology program at Holmes prepares students for careers in the operating room by combining classroom instruction with clinical experience in local healthcare settings. The program continues to build a strong reputation for producing skilled, job-ready graduates.
