The Holmes Community College Rotoract Club, advised by Assistant Librarian Jennifer Smith, collected Angel Tree items for The Home Place and delivered them on Thursday, Dec. 5. The Home Place is an assisted living facility in Madison, and over the past several years, different Holmes organizations from the Ridgeland Campus have helped make sure the residents there have a merrier Christmas.

The Holmes Community College Adult Education program will hold orientation sessions throughout the district in January 2020. The orientation for the Attala Center in Kosciusko will be held Jan. 13-5 at 8:30 a.m. The Ridgeland Campus orientation will be held Jan. 13-5 at 8:30 a.m. and also on Jan. 16 at 5 p.m. Finally, the orientation for the Yazoo City location will be Jan. 14-16 at 8:30 a.m.

Holmes Community College, in partnership with the Mississippi Department of Employment Security Commission, is hosting a job fair at the Holmes Attala Center on Wednesday, Dec.11 from 9 – 11:30 a.m. The Attala Center is located at 620 West Jefferson Street, Kosciusko.

The Mississippi Business Journal named Holmes Community College as a finalist for the “Best Two-Year College” in Mississippi, ranking the college second in the state.

Holmes Community College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) instructor Barbara Brown Puryear was honored as Mississippi College’s 2019 School of Nursing Alumna of the Year during a dinner on MC’s campus on Friday, Oct. 25. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from MC in 1976, Puryear moved on to the University of Southern Mississippi, where she earned a master’s in nursing with a focus on mental health. She also studied at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and The University of Florida.

Holmes Community College alumnus James Baggett of Jackson decided to give back to his alma mater by establishing the James Baggett Scholarship. A former surgical technology student on the Holmes Ridgeland Campus, he designated the scholarship to go to a surgical technology student on the Ridgeland Campus on the basis of financial need and academic potential.

Holmes Community College Workforce Development,in conjunction with Anel Corporation, is now offering a Welding Evening Class on the Goodman Campus. Students can still register for the non-credit course, but should do so quickly with only a few spots left. The five-week course will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30-8:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The Holmes Community College Goodman Campus is offering two different art classes taught by Fine Arts Chair and art instructor Jay Cheatham this fall. The activity-specific workshops include: Still Life with Flowers and Christmas Ornaments.

Holmes Community College recently announced members of the 2019 Homecoming Court. Ridgeland Campus Homecoming Maids include: Student Body Maid Isabella Wade of Madison; Sophomore Maid Destiny Maxwell of Brookhaven; Sophomore Maid Brandi Palmer of Jackson; Freshman Maid Amanda Jacobs of Jackson and Freshman Maid Deja Sloan of Houston, Texas.

Effective Sept. 9, 2019, Holmes will begin administering evening and weekend tests for High School Equivalency (HSE) on the Ridgeland Campus. The GED Test Center hours will be extended on Monday and Wednesday until 9 p.m. GED tests will be given the first Saturday of every month from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.
