Goodman Campus to offer shielded metal arc welding course

Holmes Community College Workforce Development is now offering a Shielded Metal Arc Welding Basic Course on the Goodman Campus. Students will receive a certificate of completion upon finishing the five-week, 40-hour course. Classes will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-9:30 p.m. from Feb. 18 through March 19.

Richards receives Eliza Pillars RN of MS nursing scholarship

Holmes Community College Ridgeland Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) sophomore Lyric S. Richards of Madison received a scholarship during the 2019 Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses of Mississippi District IV Scholarship Gala. Held on Dec. 13 at Fondren Hall in Jackson, the gala theme was “An Evening with the Stars.” ADN instructor Dr. Tiffany Cox, ADN adjunct instructor Tonya Spells and ADN Chair Dr. Alice Austin attended the event with Richards.

Holmes to offer Adult Ed classes in Eupora

Holmes Community College will begin offering Adult Education classes in Eupora at the Eupora Depot located 855 South Dunn Street beginning Jan. 15. The Holmes Adult Education program will hold orientation for High School Equivalency (HSE) classes Feb. 24-26 at 8:30 a.m. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

J.R. Hall selected as Holmes Humanities Teacher of the Year

John Robert “J.R.” Hall, a history, philosophy and religion instructor on the Ridgeland Campus, was selected as the 2019-2020 Holmes Community College Humanities Teacher of the Year. He will deliver his scholarly presentation, “The History and Phenomena of John Newton’s Amazing Grace with American Christianity and Beyond,” on Feb. 18, 2020, at 12:15 p.m. The presentation will be held in the D. P. “Pat” McGowan Workforce Training Center on the Ridgeland Campus and a reception will follow the presentation. The lecture is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

HEADWAE taps Miles, Grace as 2020 Holmes award recipients

Angela Jones Miles, a mathematics instructor, and Britton English Grace, a civil engineering major, have been named Holmes Community College’s honorees for the 2020 Legislature’s HEADWAE (Higher Education Appreciation Day Working for Academic Excellence) program. Miles is an instructor and Grace is a sophomore on the Goodman Campus of Holmes.

Attala Center announces spring 2020 courses

The Holmes Community College Attala Center in Kosciusko is offering a variety of courses and a community enrichment class during the spring of 2020. Course offerings include: Ingalls/Ivey Shipfitting and Pipefitting Class, HVAC and Brick Masonry. The community enrichment courses are beginner quilting, guitar lessons, a cookie decorating class and a variety of art classes.
