The Holmes Community College Yazoo Center is pleased to announce the addition of new workforce training/community course offerings for the spring of 2019. Located at 637 East 15th St., the Yazoo County Economic Development and Educational Center will serve as the site for job success preparation courses.

Growl staff garners awards at journalism conference

Six Holmes Community College students attended the annual O.C. McDavid Journalism Conference on Thursday, March 28 at the Two Mississippi Museums. Growl newspaper reporter Regina Gray, a sophomore on the Ridgeland Campus, was recognized during the conference for winning tow awards in the Better Newspaper Contest: Student Division. The Growl also took home third place in General Excellence.

Goodman Campus announces Creative Writing Contest winners

Each year, the Goodman Campus holds a Creative Writing Contest. All winners receive cash prizes furnished by the Holmes Foundation. First and second place winners are forwarded to the Mississippi Community College Creative Writing Association contest and will be published in Holmes’ Creative Writing Journal, “Reflections.”

Grenada educator, Holmes dean speak at ABA Capitol Day

Marie Lane, a special education teacher for Grenada Public Schools, and Dr. Jenny Jones, Goodman Campus academic dean/Attala Center director, represented Holmes Community College at the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Capitol Day on Tuesday, March 19. Lane was one of 15 Mississippi educators who received the Applied Behavior Analysis Scholarship for Teachers, provided by the Hosemann Family Autism Foundation.

On Friday, March 22, the Holmes Community College Mathematics Department hosted the Annual Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) District Junior High Math Competition for area seventh and eighth grade students in the Joe A. Adams Student Center on the Ridgeland Campus.

Holmes Community College mathematics instructor Lisa Anglin and Trek coordinator Bethany Miller were both honored with the regional Phi Theta Kappa Horizon Advisor Award. This is an honor bestowed on Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisers in recognition of exemplary service and dedication to the mission of the organization.

Wilkerson named Phi Theta Kappa New Century Scholar

Abigail Wilkerson of Madison, a sophomore on the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus, was named a 2019 Phi Theta Kappa New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship. This is the first time in school history that a Holmes student has received this honor, which is bestowed upon the students who receive the highest All-USA Academic Team application scores in their state.
