Holmes alumna Dixie Branch (’65) was honored with a plaque to recognize her contributions to Holmes Community College’s music program during the 2018 Pops Concert on April 24.

Melissa Love has joined the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus as the workforce development coordinator. She was previously employed with Holmes as the district-wide assistant director of communications, serving the college for nearly seven years. She is also a Holmes alumna, Class of 2001.

Holmes Community College staff members Dr. Robert Harris and Dr. Lawanda Herron will serve as commencement speakers for the May 11 Commencement Exercises on the Goodman Campus. Dr. Harris will deliver the commencement address for the 10 a.m. AA Commencement while Dr. Herron will deliver the commencement address for the AAS/Certificate Commencement at 2 p.m.

The 2018 Social & Behavioral Science Honor’s class program which was designed and taught by Psychology Instructor Jacqueline Bell and Social Work/Sociology Instructor Rhonda Eichler-Johnson is completing its third year at Goodman campus.

Holmes Community College prevailed at the 2018 Mississippi Community College Creative Writing Association (MCCCWA) statewide Creative Writing Contest, taking home 12 awards out of the 89 submissions entered from 12 colleges/college branches.

The Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus recognized its students’ achievements and honors during the 2018 Honors Day Program held April 17 in the McGowan Workforce Training Center.

To the benefit of Holmes Community College students and others across the nation, the Federal Pell Grant continues its year-round status and is available to cover summer school. Students may be eligible to use part of their Federal Pell Grant eligibility for the 2018-2019 academic year to cover expenses for the current summer term as long as they are enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours or half time over the course of the summer.

The SkillsUSA chapters from two Holmes Community College campuses successfully competed in the annual competition hosted by the Mississippi Department of Education at the Mississippi Trademart Center in Jackson and the Clyde Muse Center in Pearl April 10-11.

Author Richard Grant, who wrote “Dispatches from Pluto: Lost and Found in the Mississippi Delta,” discussed his New York Times Bestseller during a presentation at the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus on April 10. A reception and book signing followed his lecture.

Holmes Community College Department of Mathematics and Computer Science Associate Chair and Computer Science Instructor Dr. Robert Harris recently received the Horizon Lifetime Achievement Award from the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences.
