Slade Allgood of Carthage, a sophomore on the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus, has been named a 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

On Friday, March 2, the Holmes Community College Mathematics Department hosted the Annual Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) District Junior High Math Competition for area seventh and eighth grade students in the Joe A. Adams Student Center on the Ridgeland Campus. Participating schools included: Benton Academy, Durant Public School, Germantown Middle School, Madison Middle School, McAdams Middle, Saint Andrews, Shirley D. Simmons Middle and Tri-County Academy.

This spring, Holmes Community College is hosting a series, “Exploring the Mississippi Delta,” on the Ridgeland Campus to celebrate the Delta’s rich heritage. The central text for the series is “Dispatches from Pluto: Lost and Found in the Mississippi Delta” by Richard Grant. English instructors Dr. Andrew Kelly and Arnetra Pleas will lead a book discussion of “Dispatches from Pluto” on Thursday, March 22, at 12:30 pm. in the D.P. “Pat” McGowan Workforce Training Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Holmes Community College will hold an Electrical Lineman Program information meeting for those interested in being a part of the Fall 2018 cohort on Tuesday, April 17, at 5 p.m. in the Science and Mathematics Building Auditorium on the Goodman Campus. The meeting is mandatory for all potential students who are interested in applying to the 16-week training program.

This spring, Holmes Community College is hosting a series, “Exploring the Mississippi Delta,” on the Ridgeland Campus to celebrate the Delta’s rich heritage. The first event is a performance and presentation, “The Mississippi Delta: Birthplace of American Music” by Tricia Walker on Monday, Feb. 26. Walker, a Grammy Award-winning songwriter and director of the Delta Institute of Music at Delta State University, will perform at 12:30 p.m. in the McGowan Workforce Training Center on the Holmes Ridgeland Campus.

Holmes Community College alumna Lily Fran McCrory, daughter of Frankie and Robin McCrory of Lexington, was recently selected to represent her medical school class at University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) as class liaison.
