OTA students serve at pediatric camp in Yazoo City

The Holmes Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students recently completed a pediatric day camp for the children at Warren-Yazoo Mental Health (WYMH) on the Yazoo campus. The OTA students led groups of children ranging from ages 5-17 daily in the month of June.

A family affair for the Pugh’s, thanks to adult education programs

The world of adult education is dramatically changing for the better, and the Pugh family of Yazoo City is happy to be a part of it. Adult education programs, including those offered at Holmes Community College, now have a career pathway/transitional specialist on staff to assists students’ transition into the workforce or education/training once they receive their high school diploma. Through this newly-established position and opportunities it affords, Asher Pugh completed his GED and is now enrolled in the welding program at Holmes to begin this fall. Additionally, Asher’s experiences encouraged his father and brother to enroll at Holmes as well.

Formerly paralyzed Holmes student walks across stage at graduation

A Holmes Community College student who suffered a paralyzing spinal cord injury after a terrible wreck in high school thought he had little to no chance of ever regaining movement below his neck. Nearly five and a half years later, after countless hours at Methodist Rehabilitation Center’s facilities, 23-year-old Stevelyn Robinson accomplished his goal: to walk across the stage to receive his college diploma.

Surgical Technology program celebrates 100 percent pass rate

The Holmes Community College Surgical Technology programs on both the Grenada and Ridgeland campuses had a 100 percent pass rate on the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) exam. Holmes Surgical Technology Program Director Jessica Elliott, CST, RN, FAST, teaches the students in Grenada and Travia “Shea” Coleman, CST, B.S., teaches in Ridgeland.

The Ridgeland Campus of Holmes Community College held a Pinning Ceremony for the graduating Practical Nursing Class of 2017 on June 22 at Broadmoor Baptist Church of Madison. Twelve students were honored during the ceremony.

The Holmes Community College Wellness Center is open for summer. The machine weights, free weights, cardiovascular machines and the pool are open for use Monday – Thursday 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m.-noon.
