Ten Holmes programs ranked by AffordableCollegesOnline.org

Earlier this year, Holmes Community College was named one of the nation’s Best Online Community Colleges for 2016 by AffordableCollegesOnline.org (ACO), a leader in higher education information, resources and rankings. In addition to the 10 rankings Holmes received for the 2016-2017 school year, the college earned an additional 10 rankings for 2017-2018.

Holmes offers News Writing, Reporting for Fall ’17

Beginning in the fall of 2017, Holmes Community College will offer a three-hour journalism class for the first time in the institution’s history. The class, JOU 1313 – News Writing and Reporting I, is an introductory journalism course designed to teach news writing and reporting. Upon completion of this class, students will be able to understand reporting and fact-gathering, utilize various interviewing methods, construct a basic news article, implement source and fact-checking and understand/implement online reporting. For now, JOU 1313 will only be offered as an online course.

Holmes receives 11 CPRAM Awards

Members of the Communications and Marketing/Recruiting Departments of Holmes Community College brought home 11 awards from the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi annual meeting held Sunday through Tuesday in Ocean Springs.

2017 Registration dates set

Holmes Community College  registration for the summer and fall terms began on April 4. The college offers transferable academic courses, the Associate in Arts degree, the Associate in Applied Science degree, technical certificates and career certificates, as well as workforce training. Holmes offers several campus locations, including the Goodman Campus, the Grenada Campus, the Ridgeland Campus, they Yazoo Center in Yazoo City, the Attala Center in Kosciusko, and the Wood Institute in Mathiston.

Vance receives prestigious Lyceum Scholarship

Holmes Community College sophomore Taylor Vance, son of Jeff and Leigh Vance of Grenada, recently received the prestigious Lyceum Scholarship from the University of Mississippi. The scholarship provides full resident tuition for two years. Vance graduated from Holmes on May 12 and will begin his studies at Ole Miss as a journalism major in the fall of 2017.

The Ridgeland Campus of Holmes Community College held a Pinning Ceremony for the graduating Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Class of 2017 on May 10 at Ridgeland High School. Twenty-nine students graduated from the program.

Academic and technical students with exemplary quality point averages are recognized at the end of the fall and spring semesters by being named to the President’s or Dean’s list. To be eligible for such recognition a student must be enrolled in at least twelve semester hours.
