Cox earns national certification

Cox earns national certification Holmes Community College Associate Degree Nursing Instructor Tiffany Gordon Cox recently earned the designation Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) after meeting strict eligibility criteria and successfully completing a rigorous certification examination developed and administered by the National League for Nursing (NLN).

"The NLN's Academic Nurse Educator Certification program has conferred new visibility and stature upon the academic nursing community that is long overdue," said Dr. Beverly Malone, CEO of the NLN. "Through the certification program, we have made clear to the ranks of higher education that the role of nurse educator is an advanced professional practice discipline with a defined practice setting and demonstrable standards of excellence."

Cox has been employed as an instructor on the Holmes Ridgeland Campus since February of 2013. She received her bachelor's in nursing from Alcorn State University in 1992, a Master of Public Policy and Administration from Jackson State University in 2002, and a Master of Nursing Education from the University of Mississippi in 2012.  Cox is presently enrolled to begin pursuit of a PhD in Nursing Administration and Education at William Carey University. 

Cox has served as a nurse for 23 years in various areas such as orthopedics, home health, enterostomal therapy, oncology/hematology, psychiatry, utilization review, case management, and education. She is also a 2003 Presidential Management Scholarship recipient which led to employment with the USDA Forest Service of Washington, DC, in the Safety and Health Division, as well with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration in Rockville, Maryland. After her 20-year career in direct patient care, nursing management and grant administration, Cox decided to return to school and began a career change as a nursing instructor, mentoring those in the field in which she has devoted over half of her life. 

In addition to teaching, Cox is actively involved in the Eliza Pillars Nursing Association, the Mississippi Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, National League of Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau, Phi Kappa Phi, the Alcorn Alumni Association and Band Alumni Association, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. She has received numerous scholarly and professional awards in her career with the most recent being Nursing Instructor of the Year for Holmes Community College. She is married to SFC. Joe Lee Cox and the mother of Madison, 9 and Chase, 7.
