Holmes alumna Candice Buchanan joins Holmes CC nursing faculty

Candice Buchanan has joined the Holmes Community College family as part of the Practical Nursing faculty. She and Mary Clayton Belk will serve as instructors for the evening/weekend program on the Ridgeland Campus.
A Holmes alumna, Buchanan graduated from the college’s Associate Degree Nursing program in 2015 before transferring to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). Buchanan completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2021 and her Master of Science in Nursing in 2023, graduating summa cum laude from both programs. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in nursing at UMMC.
Buchanan has nine years of nursing experience, including three years with UMMC’s Pediatric Emergency Department, two with St. Dominic Hospital’s Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, one with St. Dominic Hospital’s Gynecological Oncology, two with Sta-Home Health and Hospice and one with Baptist Hospital Oncology. Additionally, she is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Phi Kappa Phi, the Emergency Nurses Association and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Buchanan is married to Dr. Jonathan Buchanan, and has three children: Brantley Hill (11), Evelyn Buchanan (2.5) and Blair Buchanan (6 months). They love to play board games, and they have a collection of over 200 games. In her free time, Buchanan also likes to read and bind/rebind her favorite books. She is active in the community; her volunteer work includes participating in the Sanderson Farms First Aid Tent, the Natural Science Museum Health Fair and with the St. Dominic Hospital Stryker Survey.
