Holmes Community College Grenada Campus Hosts Surgical Technology Pinning Ceremony

The Holmes Community College Grenada Campus held a Pinning Ceremony for the Surgical Technology Class of 2025 on Tuesday, June 25, in the Corey Forum Auditorium. Surrounded by family, friends, and faculty, seven dedicated students were recognized for completing the Surgical Technology program.

The ceremony began with a warm welcome from Surgical Technology Instructor Leah Mitchell, who praised the graduates for their perseverance and dedication throughout the program. She also recognized two outstanding students for academic excellence: Anna Ross was named valedictorian for earning the highest GPA, and Hannah Grace Jacks was named salutatorian for the second-highest GPA in the class. Speeches were given by Jacks, LeeAnn Acy, and Kaylyn Barrett.

Following the presentation, Mitchell called each graduate individually to receive their certificate and ceremonial pin. The honored graduates were:

Kaylyn Barrett – Attala County

LeeAnn Acy – Carroll County

Teslyn Ford – Montgomery County

Jaylynn Hall – Grenada County

Hannah Grace Jacks – Grenada County

Jessica McGowan – Tallahatchie County

Anna Ross – Tallahatchie County

After receiving their pins, Ross recited the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) Code of Ethics, affirming their commitment to professionalism, integrity, and patient care in the surgical setting. The ceremony concluded with a benediction delivered by Barrett.

The Holmes Surgical Technology Program offers both classroom instruction and clinical experience to prepare students as competent entry-level surgical technologists. Coursework includes aseptic technique, operative procedures, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, legal and ethical considerations, and technological sciences such as computers, electricity, and robotics.

The program’s goal is to equip students with cognitive knowledge, psychomotor skills, and professional behavior necessary to become valuable members of the surgical team. Upon graduation, students are eligible to apply to take the national certifying exam through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) to become Certified Surgical Technologists.

Serving the healthcare needs of a nine-county region, the program continues to produce highly trained professionals who are well-prepared to contribute to surgical teams across Mississippi and beyond.
