MDOT Awards STEM Scholarship to Holmes Goodman student The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has awarded a $500 scholarship to Jalyn J. Baker, a student at Holmes Community College in Goodman.
Baker, a resident of Clinton, is pursuing a career in architectural engineering. The MDOT scholarship is awarded to students studying STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math) toward a career path in transportation engineering, and majoring in computer science, urban or community planning, or other transportation related technology fields.
"Supporting future generations of transportation professionals will help advance Mississippi's multi-modal transportation infrastructure," said Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall. "MDOT's scholarship program acknowledges the need to support educational opportunities for students in these fields."
Funded in support by the Southeastern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO), the MDOT scholarship is awarded to help defray education expenses, which may include academic fees, tuition and books, room and board, and other related expenses. This is the 12th year of the scholarship program. Student eligibility is determined by GPA and a desire to pursue a career path in transportation STEM.
