The Holmes Community College Electrical Lineman Program has added another bucket truck to its fleet thanks to a donation from B&B Electrical and Utility Contractors, Inc. out of Brandon.

The Holmes Community College Attala Center is offering Brick Masonry this fall and still has spots available for those who are interested.

Theresa Hargett, an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) instructor on the Holmes Community College Grenada Campus, recently earned a Doctor of Higher Education and Leadership from the University of Mississippi. Hargett’s dissertation was titled “Students’ Perceptions and Strategies for Success in an Associate Degree Nursing Program.”

The Holmes Community College Attala Center is offering three different art classes taught by Fine Arts Chair and art instructor Jay Cheatham this fall. The activity-specific workshops include: Still Life with Flowers, Halloween Door Hangers and Christmas Ornaments.

Lisa Davis, an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) instructor on the Holmes Community College Grenada Campus, recently earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Education and Administration from William Carey University. Davis’ dissertation was titled “Examining the Impact of Academic and Social Integration on Retention of First-Year Associate Degree Nursing Students.”

On Monday, Aug. 12, Holmes Community College celebrated the upcoming school year with an Opening Convocation on the Goodman Campus. This year’s theme was “Back to the Future,” giving employees an opportunity to rock their 80’s garb if they felt inclined. In addition to the employee mix and mingle, a recognition of new employees, a welcome message by President Dr. Jim Haffey and breakout sessions by department, the institution also recognized those who have reached milestones for their years of service to Holmes.

The Holmes Community College Yazoo County Educational Center is offering community classes this fall. Two of the courses, Brick Masonry and Residential Wiring, still have spots available for those who are interested.

Holmes Community College began a new partnership with Ingalls Shipbuilding in 2018 and among those in the inaugural program was Attala County native Matthew Moore. This was not Moore’s first time in a Holmes program, however; the 22-year-old first came to the college to earn a High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma. As a participant in the MI-BEST program, he not only took Adult Basic Education classes and earned his diploma, but also earned welding credits and completed the Ingalls shipfitting training program.

The Holmes Community College Attala Center in Kosciusko is offering two sewing classes this fall: Beginner Sewing and T-shirt Quilting.

The Holmes Community College Attala Center is offering guitar sessions this fall taught by Drew Townsend. The first 12-week session is the Beginner Guitar class for ages 10-18, which will meet every Tuesday, beginning Sept. 3, from 7-8 p.m. The second course, Adult Guitar, will meet every Thursday, beginning Sept. 5, from 7-8 p.m. Limited seating is available.
