Holmes Community College’s Horizons yearbook placed third in the 2017-18 Mississippi Community and Junior College Press Association yearbook competition. The yearbooks were judged on seven categories including cover, theme, structure, typography, design, copy and photography.

Trussell is Northern District Adult Basic Education Teacher of the Year

Tommy Trussell of Holmes Community College was named the Northern District Adult Basic Education Teacher of the Year at the Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education (MAACE) Conference on June 6. Trussell, an Adult Education/High School Equivalency (HSE) instructor, works at The Attala Center in Kosciusko.

Funeral services for longtime Holmes Community College employee Joey Netherland, Sr. are set for Saturday, June 9 in Frank Branch Coliseum on the Goodman Campus of Holmes Community College. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with services to follow at 3 p.m. A private graveside for family only will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery in Ebenezer.

Career/Tech to hold hands-on roadshow event in Yazoo City

From automotive technology to welding, from surgical technology to cosmetology, Holmes Community College’s Career-Technical Education (CTE) division has a variety of programs to offer the community. On Tuesday, June 19, from 9 a.m. – noon, CTE will host an interactive roadshow event at the Yazoo County Economic Development and Education Center located at 637 East 15th Street. The hands-on, community event will showcase the career and technical programs offered at each of the college’s locations.

Holmes offers year-round Pell Grant

To the benefit of Holmes Community College students and others across the nation, the Federal Pell Grant continues its year-round status and is available to cover summer school. Students may be eligible to use part of their Federal Pell Grant eligibility for the 2018-2019 academic year to cover expenses for the current summer term as long as they are enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours or half time over the course of the summer.

Dr. Alice Austin graduates from community college leadership program

Holmes Community College Associate Degree Nursing Director Dr. Alice Austin graduated from the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy (MCCLA) on May 10. The graduation ceremony was held in the Hunter Henry Center on the campus of Mississippi State University and Dr. Austin was among 31 graduates from community colleges across the state.

Holmes alumna Briana Hearn receives top honor at Ole Miss

Holmes Community College alumna Briana Hearn was among more than 70 University of Mississippi students to receive a Marcus Elvis Taylor Memorial Medal, the university’s highest academic award. To qualify, a student must have a GPA of at least 3.86. The students were recognized during the annual Honors Day Convocation held in April.
