Holmes first JUCO in nation to offer Applied Behavior Analysis course

Beginning in March of 2018, Holmes Community College will be the first community college in the nation to offer PSY 2543 – Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This is an online course that counts toward the 40 hours of training needed to apply for the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential.

Tierce announces retirement after more than 33 years

Before the Holmes Community College Grenada Campus even opened its doors to students in 1985, Joan Estes Tierce had already been serving Holmes’ students for over a year as librarian. After 33 and a half years, Tierce recently announced that the fall semester at Holmes would be her last and she is retiring in December.

Legislature awards Wang, Allgood with 2018 HEADWAE recognition

Shae Wang, a computer science and mathematics instructor, and Buck Slade Allgood of Carthage, a pre-medical student, have been named Holmes Community College’s honorees for the Legislature’s HEADWAE (Higher Education Appreciation Day – Working for Academic Excellence) program for 2018. Wang is an instructor on the Grenada Campus and Allgood is a sophomore on the Ridgeland Campus.

Mabus receives TYCAM’s Ovid Vickers Award

Grenada Campus English Instructor and English, Foreign Language and Speech Department co-chair at Holmes Amber Mabus recently received the Ovid S. Vickers Award for Excellence in The Teaching of English from the Two-Year College English Association of Mississippi at their annual meeting at Eagle Ridge Conference Center in Raymond in late September.

Holmes awards degree through Complete2Compete initiative

Holmes Community College awarded Marsha Credit of Jackson an Associate of Arts degree through the Complete2Compete (C2C) program. Credit is the first Holmes student to receive a degree through C2C since the program’s launch in August. Credit completed her program of study in elementary education on the Ridgeland Campus.

Holmes alumna chosen for Prestigious Disney College Program

Holmes Community College 2017 alumna Payton Earley of Brandon recently found out that she has been chosen for a coveted spot in the Disney College Program at the Walt Disney World Resort. Earley is currently a junior journalism major at Belhaven University and she will move to Orlando, Florida, on Jan. 22 to begin her semester-long internship.
