This spring, Holmes Community College is hosting a series, “Exploring the Mississippi Delta,” on the Ridgeland Campus to celebrate the Delta’s rich heritage. The central text for the series is “Dispatches from Pluto: Lost and Found in the Mississippi Delta” by Richard Grant. English instructors Dr. Andrew Kelly and Arnetra Pleas will lead a book discussion of “Dispatches from Pluto” on Thursday, March 22, at 12:30 pm. in the D.P. “Pat” McGowan Workforce Training Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Holmes Community College will hold an Electrical Lineman Program information meeting for those interested in being a part of the Fall 2018 cohort on Tuesday, April 17, at 5 p.m. in the Science and Mathematics Building Auditorium on the Goodman Campus. The meeting is mandatory for all potential students who are interested in applying to the 16-week training program.

The first event is a performance and presentation, “The Mississippi Delta: Birthplace of American Music” by Tricia Walker on Monday, Feb. 26. Walker, a Grammy Award-winning songwriter and director of the Delta Institute of Music at Delta State University, will perform at 12:30 p.m. in the McGowan Workforce Training Center on the Holmes Ridgeland Campus.

Holmes Community College alumna Lily Fran McCrory, daughter of Frankie and Robin McCrory of Lexington, was recently selected to represent her medical school class at University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) as class liaison.

The Holmes Community College Attala Center is partnering with Ivey Mechanical to offer an Introduction to Plumbing Trades paid training course. Fifteen students will be selected for the program, which will run from March 19-June 1. The class, taught by Carl Bibbs, will run Monday-Friday at the Attala Center, located on 620 West Jefferson St. in Kosciusko. There is no charge to take the course.

Amber Bell of Kosciusko and Cade Montague of McAdams have joined the Holmes Community College family as staff/faculty members. Bell is the new Smart-Start Navigator for the Attala Center in Kosciusko and Montague has joined the Ridgeland Campus as an academic fieldwork coordinator and instructor for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology (OTA) program.

On Feb. 1, the Holmes Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students and instructors participated in the 2018 Mississippi Occupational Therapy Association (MSOTA) Legislative Day at the State Capitol.

Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus SkillsUSA chapter, in collaboration with the Ridgeland Fire Department, recently collected Christmas gifts for Sunnybrook Children’s Home and delivered them on Thursday, Dec. 7.

Shae Wang, a computer science and mathematics instructor, and Buck Slade Allgood of Carthage, a pre-medical student, have been named Holmes Community College’s honorees for the Legislature’s HEADWAE (Higher Education Appreciation Day – Working for Academic Excellence) program for 2018. Wang is an instructor on the Grenada Campus and Allgood is a sophomore on the Ridgeland Campus.

Holmes Community College awarded Marsha Credit of Jackson an Associate of Arts degree through the Complete2Compete (C2C) program. Credit is the first Holmes student to receive a degree through C2C since the program’s launch in August. Credit completed her program of study in elementary education on the Ridgeland Campus.
