PTK engineering majors visit MSU, Keenum

A group of Holmes Community College Phi Theta Kappa students in the engineering technology program toured Mississippi State University on May 10 after receiving a personalized invitation from MSU President Dr. Mark E. Keenum.

2017 Registration dates set

Holmes Community College  registration for the summer and fall terms began on April 4. The college offers transferable academic courses, the Associate in Arts degree, the Associate in Applied Science degree, technical certificates and career certificates, as well as workforce training. Holmes offers several campus locations, including the Goodman Campus, the Grenada Campus, the Ridgeland Campus, they Yazoo Center in Yazoo City, the Attala Center in Kosciusko, and the Wood Institute in Mathiston.

Vance receives prestigious Lyceum Scholarship

Holmes Community College sophomore Taylor Vance, son of Jeff and Leigh Vance of Grenada, recently received the prestigious Lyceum Scholarship from the University of Mississippi. The scholarship provides full resident tuition for two years. Vance graduated from Holmes on May 12 and will begin his studies at Ole Miss as a journalism major in the fall of 2017.

The Ridgeland Campus of Holmes Community College held a Pinning Ceremony for the graduating Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Class of 2017 on May 10 at Ridgeland High School. Twenty-nine students graduated from the program.

Magnolia GOLD program completes second successful year

Freshman Brian Flaherty of Flowood is one of many whom have already benefitted from the Holmes Community College Magnolia GOLD military science program. The “GOLD” stands for Guard Officer Leadership Development and the program was established at Holmes in the fall of 2015.

Soccer team serves at Ronald McDonald House

On April 25, the Holmes Community College men and women’s soccer teams took a break from spring training to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mississippi (RMHC MS) in downtown Jackson. Holmes’ players served dinner to the families and patients at the Ronald McDonald House, while also interacting with the residents. Head Soccer Coach Matt Convertino picked up the home-style food from Fresh Market Café, a portion of which the restaurant kindly donated to the cause.

Commencement set for May 12

The 89th commencement exercises are set for Friday, May 12 in Frank Branch Coliseum on the Goodman Campus. The AAS/Certificate Ceremony is set for 10 a.m. with the AA Ceremony being set for 2 p.m. This year, students will serve as keynote speakers for both ceremonies. Scotty J. Jobe, Jr. of Farmhaven will serve as speaker for the AAS/Certificate Ceremony and Taylor Vance of Grenada for the AA Ceremony.

Holmes inducts six into 2017 Sports Hall of Fame

On April 27, the Holmes Community College Alumni Association inducted six former athletes into the 2017 Sports Hall of Fame in Frank Branch Coliseum in Goodman. The six inductees included: Elizabeth Mosby Ellis, Women’s Basketball; Todd Kimble, Men’s Basketball Coach; Charles McCluskey, Football/Baseball; Phillip Sistrunk, Men’s Soccer; Derek Starling, Jr., Men’s Basketball, and Austin Taylor, Baseball.
