Business Management Technology available district-wide
Holmes Community College is proud to announce that it is now offering a new Business Management Technology program in Goodman, Grenada, and Ridgeland beginning this fall. The program is one of the institution's Business and Office Technology (BOT) concentrations offered through the Career/Technical Education (CTE) Department. All BOT programs include courses designed to prepare students for a variety of entry-level positions through selection of a concentration leading to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.
The new Business Management Technology program provides students with relevant professional management knowledge and effective skills in technology, entrepreneurship, human resources, and web and social media design and maintenance. Students will develop skills in innovative aspects of technology and business management with an emphasis on project-based learning and field externships. The externships could easily result in permanent employment opportunities for students following graduation.
Through the Business Management Technology program, students have the opportunity to earn a Technical certificate after completing the first-year, as well as the options to earn an Advanced Technical certificate or an AAS.
"I'm excited about this program because it's a new curriculum that I think the students will really enjoy," said BOT Department Chair NaTunya Johnson. "The Business Management Technology program is designed to keep students more engaged than traditional lecture-style courses. We've worked hard to incorporate more project-based and hands-on learning because we believe that those techniques will increase interest in BOT programs and help give students the skills needed to compete in today's job market."
Other BOT concentration options include Accounting Technology, Billing and Coding Technology, Medical Office Technology, and Office Systems Technology. Students also have the option to earn a Technical certificate in Office Systems Technology after completing the first-year requirements in that concentration.
Some of the career opportunities that the BOT programs prepare students for include positions as an accounts payable/receivable clerk, an administrative assistant, a claims specialist, a customer service representative, a data entry clerk, an executive assistant, an insurance coding clerk, an inventory clerk, a medical billing clerk, a medical office assistant, a medical transcriptionist, a payroll specialist, a receptionist, and a tax/audit administrative assistant, among other possibilities.
BOT courses seek to provide a path for achieving successful employment in the workplace through the integration of academic, technical, and career skills. Coursework is delivered using face-to-face, online and hybrid formats. Students in BOT programs also have the option to join Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) business organization. PBL provides students opportunities to gain additional job-related skills to prepare them for future careers.
