Holmes Yazoo location announces spring 2020 courses

The Holmes Community College Yazoo County Educational Center is offering a variety of courses and a community enrichment class during the spring of 2020. Course offerings include: HVAC, Brick Masonry and Residential Wiring. The community enrichment course will be a “Still Life with Flowers” painting workshop.

Rotoract Club brings Christmas cheer to The Home Place

The Holmes Community College Rotoract Club, advised by Assistant Librarian Jennifer Smith, collected Angel Tree items for The Home Place and delivered them on Thursday, Dec. 5. The Home Place is an assisted living facility in Madison, and over the past several years, different Holmes organizations from the Ridgeland Campus have helped make sure the residents there have a merrier Christmas.

Adult Education program to hold orientation across the district

The Holmes Community College Adult Education program will hold orientation sessions throughout the district in January 2020. The orientation for the Attala Center in Kosciusko will be held Jan. 13-5 at 8:30 a.m. The Ridgeland Campus orientation will be held Jan. 13-5 at 8:30 a.m. and also on Jan. 16 at 5 p.m. Finally, the orientation for the Yazoo City location will be Jan. 14-16 at 8:30 a.m.

Holmes Community College, in partnership with the Mississippi Department of Employment Security Commission, is hosting a job fair at the Holmes Attala Center on Wednesday, Dec.11 from 9 – 11:30 a.m. The Attala Center is located at 620 West Jefferson Street, Kosciusko.

Spring 2020 Registration is now open

Holmes Community College registration for the spring term began on Nov. 11. The college offers transferable academic courses, the Associate of Arts degree, the Associate of Applied Science degree, technical certificates and career certificates, as well as workforce training.

Puryear named MC’s School of Nursing Alumna of the Year

Holmes Community College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) instructor Barbara Brown Puryear was honored as Mississippi College’s 2019 School of Nursing Alumna of the Year during a dinner on MC’s campus on Friday, Oct. 25. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from MC in 1976, Puryear moved on to the University of Southern Mississippi, where she earned a master’s in nursing with a focus on mental health. She also studied at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and The University of Florida.

Holmes surgical tech alumnus gives back to his alma mater through scholarship

Holmes Community College alumnus James Baggett of Jackson decided to give back to his alma mater by establishing the James Baggett Scholarship. A former surgical technology student on the Holmes Ridgeland Campus, he designated the scholarship to go to a surgical technology student on the Ridgeland Campus on the basis of financial need and academic potential.

Goodman Campus offering Welding Evening Class

Holmes Community College Workforce Development,in conjunction with Anel Corporation, is now offering a Welding Evening Class on the Goodman Campus. Students can still register for the non-credit course, but should do so quickly with only a few spots left. The five-week course will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30-8:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1.
