Ridgeland Campus announces Who’s Who 2023

The Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus announced the 2023 Who’s Who recipients, which includes Mr. and Miss Holmes and Class Favorites. Mr. and Miss Holmes for the Ridgeland Campus are Jaylen Grays and Olasike Olagbegi, both of Jackson.

Grays, son of Rose and J.Z. Grays, is a psychology major. He is also a President’s List scholar, vice president of public relations for Phi Theta Kappa and a Student Government Association representative who assisted in founding intramural sports on the Ridgeland Campus. Additionally, he established Student Instagram Takeover. Off campus, he is an active member of Relevant Church and a member of Thursday Night Thrive. As a freshman, Grays was employed at Shoe Station and served as a volunteer for Abraham’s Kitchen. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with friends, playing games and working out. After Holmes, he plans to transfer to Mississippi State University to pursue his bachelor’s degree in psychology.

“Picking my favorite memory from Holmes is hard because I have so many but if I had to choose one, it would probably be when me Garrett and Charlotte successfully coordinated the first intramural event during Spring Fling 2022,” Grays said. “I’m so honored that the student body recognized me as Mr. Holmes. I have grown so much as a person over these two years, made so many amazing friends and loved every second of it. I will truly miss Holmes, but now it’s on to even greater things.”

Olagbegi, daughter of Miriam and Juwon Olagbegi, is a biology/pre-med major. She is Student Government Association president, STEM Club president, an Ambassador for the college and active in intramural sports. Olagbegi was also selected as the Student Body Maid for Homecoming 2022. Off campus, she attends Refuge Temple church of Jackson where she is a member of the choir. She’s also part of the Jackson Youth Leadership program and volunteers with Abraham’s Table, which is a non-profit her family founded that feeds the homeless at Poindexter Park every month.

In her free time, Olagbegi loves to shop, read the Bible and hang out with friends. Upon graduation, she plans to continue her education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she will obtain her bachelor’s degree in pre-med. After earning her master’s, she will apply for medical school in hopes of becoming an OB-GYN.

“Although Holmes has left me with many memories to cherish, if I had to choose, my favorite memory would be becoming an Ambassador and enjoying every day with my Ambassador family,” Olagbegi said. “Each day brought something new. From the laughs, to talks, to tours, I’ve enjoyed every moment. Mrs. Amanda and my fellow Ambassadors are friends whom I will cherish for a lifetime. Over these past two years, Holmes has taught me things I will never forget! The staff and my friends that I’ve met are truly remarkable! Holmes will always be home!”
