The Ridgeland Campus of Holmes Community College held a Pinning Ceremony for the graduating Practical Nursing Class of 2018 on June 21 at Broadmoor Baptist Church of Madison. Ten students were honored during the ceremony.

Holmes Community College is proud to announce a new opportunity for Calhoun County residents. The Calhoun County Tuition Assistance Grant Program (CCTAGP) is coordinated with federal aid, state aid and scholarship funds to assure that qualifying students’ tuition is covered for four consecutive semesters (excluding summer).

Holmes Community College student Ricky “Otto” Ulland is the definition of a MI-BEST success story. MI-BEST, or Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training, is a program implemented through the Mississippi Community College Board. It allows qualified applicants to take courses they need to prepare for the High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma while at the same time training for a future career.

Holmes Community College alumna Katelyn Hardy Chism (’14) is putting her early education degree to good use and paying it forward.

Holmes Community College’s Horizons yearbook placed third in the 2017-18 Mississippi Community and Junior College Press Association yearbook competition. The yearbooks were judged on seven categories including cover, theme, structure, typography, design, copy and photography.

Tommy Trussell of Holmes Community College was named the Northern District Adult Basic Education Teacher of the Year at the Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education (MAACE) Conference on June 6. Trussell, an Adult Education/High School Equivalency (HSE) instructor, works at The Attala Center in Kosciusko.

Funeral services for longtime Holmes Community College employee Joey Netherland, Sr. are set for Saturday, June 9 in Frank Branch Coliseum on the Goodman Campus of Holmes Community College. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with services to follow at 3 p.m. A private graveside for family only will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery in Ebenezer.

From automotive technology to welding, from surgical technology to cosmetology, Holmes Community College’s Career-Technical Education (CTE) division has a variety of programs to offer the community. On Tuesday, June 19, from 9 a.m. – noon, CTE will host an interactive roadshow event at the Yazoo County Economic Development and Education Center located at 637 East 15th Street. The hands-on, community event will showcase the career and technical programs offered at each of the college’s locations.

Holmes Community College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) sophomore Tamara L. Sims of Canton received a $500 Joyce Adams Scholarship from the Knights of Pillars Nurses Association (KPNA) during a banquet on Friday, June 1.
