Holmes adds three new CTE programs

Holmes adds three new CTE programs New CTE Programs offered at HCC

Holmes Community College is pleased to announce the addition of the Massage Therapy Program, the Culinary Arts Technology Program and the Health Care Assistant Program to the Career and Technical Education Fall offerings.

"We are very proud to be able to offer new programs in Culinary Arts, Massage Therapy, and Health Care Assistant at Holmes," Vice President of Career Technical Education Dr. Amy Whittington said. "These new programs are the result of a lot of hard work and time spent networking with business and industry partners to determine where employment gaps exist in our district. We are very appreciative of these partners who have helped us bring the new programs to fruition. We are excited to enroll students for a Fall program start and introduce our new instructors who will be leading these programs in the near future."

Massage Therapy Program (Ridgeland Campus only)
The Massage Therapy program is designed to prepare students for careers as professional massage therapists. The curriculum prepares students to develop knowledge and skills for practicing massage therapy. Core courses emphasize massage therapy principles, ethics, business application, pathology, anatomy and physiology, technique modalities, and kinesiology.

Graduates of the program can earn a Technical Certificate upon completion of Massage Therapy technical courses. The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Massage Therapy will be awarded upon successful completion of the entire curriculum including academic core classes.

An application process is required for this program and will open in May. Special emphasis is placed on culinary tools, equipment, techniques, and specialty ingredients. The heart of the Culinary Arts Technology program is hands-on lab instruction by a chef instructor in a commercial kitchen.

Graduates of the program can earn a Technical Certificate, an Advanced Technical Certificate, or an Associate of Applied Science Degree depending upon exit point in the curriculum.

Students should review the course offerings and schedule their classes accordingly to receive the degree. This curriculum references standards based on the State of Mississippi Nurse Aide Candidate Handbook Exam Content Outline. Graduates of the one-semester program will be awarded the Certificate of Health Care Assistant. Students who complete the program may qualify for employment as Homemakers, Nurse Assistants, Long-Term Care Aides, or Home Health Aides in the Mississippi health care industry.
