Homecoming 2017 is set for Saturday, Oct. 21 on the Goodman Campus with activities starting at 9 a.m. and lasting until the final horn sounds for the Bulldogs football game with Northeast.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, and Wednesday, Oct. 4, the Mississippi Animal Rescue League (MARL) brought puppies to the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus and as a result, three were adopted.

The Holmes Community College Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Lambda Sigma Chapter is holding an Embryo Adoption Awareness Event at the D.P. “Pat” McGowan Workforce Training Center in Ridgeland on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 6-8 p.m. Dr. John D. Isaacs Jr., a reproductive endocrinologist, will present the medical aspects of embryo adoption and Ashley Pittman, J.D, LL.M, an attorney, will present the legal aspects of embryo adoption.

Sonja Arnett, an English instructor on the Goodman Campus, has been named Holmes Community College’s 2017 Humanities Teacher of the Year.

The 40 Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus freshmen Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) students participated in the 19th Annual St. Dominic Senior Wellness Fest on Sept. 22. Held at Mississippi Trade Mart in downtown Jackson, the annual event is one of Mississippi’s largest senior events of the year.

Alumni of Holmes Community College’s electric linemen program employed with various electric companies are putting their skills to good use in the wake of the recent hurricanes. Although Holmes instructors feel certain that there are other graduates aiding in the relief efforts, there are – for certain – five former students working in Texas and one in Florida.

The Holmes Community College Goodman Campus SkillsUSA Opening and Closing Team won third place in the National SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, Kentucky on June 23. The team included Jenna Cummings, Kevin Luckett, Lauren Martin, David Orduna, Ann Pohlig, Lakesha Rand and Hallie Westbrook.

Holmes Community College is offering the Manager’s Food Safety Course at the Yazoo County Educational Center on Thursday, Sept. 21, and at the Attala Center in Kosciusko on Thursday, Oct. 26. The courses last from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. and cost $150 each.

The Holmes Community College Attala Center is partnering with Ivey Mechanical to offer an Introduction to Plumbing Trades paid training course. Fifteen students will be selected for the program, which will run from Oct. 9 to Dec. 8.
The course, taught by Carl Bibbs, will run Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Attala Center, located on 620 West Jefferson St. in Kosciusko. There is no charge to take the course.

Dr. Jenny Bailey Jones was named director of the Holmes Community College Attala Center in Kosciusko. In addition to running the Attala Center, Jenny will continue to serve as an academic dean at the college, overseeing instruction in Goodman and Kosciusko. Dr. Jones is stepping into this role held by Nancy McRight as she begins her retirement from Holmes.
